Since the 1980s

About Centre City Mall

Chaguanas had 6,177 people in 1980. By 2011 it had 83,489 — the largest municipality and the fastest-growing town in Trinidad & Tobago. Centre City was one of the three malls built downtown during that boom, and it is still trading on the Main Road today.

The plan on the record

The 2014 expansion that was never built

In January 2014 the Trinidad Guardian reported that the mall's owner intended to rebuild Centre City into the most modern shopping centre in the country. It was not built. What you visit today is still the original mall — but the plan is a matter of public record, so here it is with the numbers as reported.

The building

Built for a town that
was about to explode.

The 1980s were the decade Chaguanas changed. People came for bargain shopping and moderately priced housing, and the retail followed them: three malls went up in the downtown — Centre City, Mid Centre, and Ramsaran Plaza, which later became Centre Pointe Mall.

Centre City sits on the Chaguanas Main Road, the borough's primary commercial corridor, among the numerous shopping plazas that grew up along it. Two retail floors, a food court, and a car park round the back on Mulchan Seuchan Road.

It has since been significantly renovated. What it calls itself now is plain enough: a family-oriented community shopping mall — “affordable, great food, secure parking”.

Keeping this site right. Shop listings, opening hours and the history on this page are compiled from public records and the mall’s own channels. Employment opportunities

Jobs at Centre City

With the mall itself

Roles with the complex itself — car park attendants, cleaning, maintenance and security — go through the mall office. Call or email and ask what is going.

With a shop in the mall

Retail and kitchen roles are hired by each business directly, not by the mall. Several tenants run active social accounts — LA Clothing, Wonderful World and Anand's among them — and that is usually where a vacancy shows up first. Otherwise, the oldest method still works: walk in and ask.
